I have an '06 american standard tele nad I have always thought the stock pickups were a bit "sterile" , so I waited for a set of texas specials to go on sale at MF. They did - I bought'em and installed'em and wow, what a difference. The texas specials (IMO) are the best sounding pickups I have ever heard. Man these things really bring my tele to life.

If you're looking to swap out your pickups, please do yourself a favor and at least consider the texas specials.

I completely agree. I have a 97 American Plus - so it said on the case that came with it ;) - and it orignally had lace sensor's....now they were cool because they were QUIET. Also, they were etremely thin and didn't cut all that much. Especially when I was gigging through a Peavey Classic 30 and really needed to cut through some other instruments.

I was pointed toward the TS's by a trustes friend at the local music store and DAMN! Those TS's definitely give your strat the "strat" sound you've always looked for and I know that tele's sound great with with specials as well. I couldn't have asked for a better pickup upgrade.

I must say as well if you ever get the chance to play a strat with TS's through a Gerlitz amp = strat HEAVEN!

These Texas Tele single-coils were favored by such greats such as Albert Collins and James Burton, to name a few.

I recalled Fender released an MP3 sample of the James Burton Standard a couple of years ago: James' country rock chops were amazing!

Totally agree. I put a Texas Special in the bridge of my '04 US Standard and it is superb, BUT, wasn't so impressed with the neck PuP so put an uncovered Rio Grande Vintage Tallboy in there, now that is a match made in heaven (IMHO) just seems to give a bit more range and oomph.

The sunburst Squier Classic Vibe Custom Tele uses the same pickup configuration found on the early US Deluxes from the 1998/99 period, a Vintage Noiseless Strat pickup sandwiched by two Vintage Noiseless Tele pickups.

There's also the extra hole in the control plate between the master volume and tone to install the special 2-way mini toggle which allows for a total amount of seven different pickup combinations.

I suppose this picture was taken before swapping out the VNs for the TX Specials. True or false? Or perhaps the TX Specials are installed on the white guitar instead of the sunburst?

I put a set of the CS Texas Specials in my oldest Tele that I recently refurbished. They are very nice but they are geared more towards the modern genre music or even the older blues or Rock that would sound better with Hotter pups. Of course sound and taste are purley subjective to the player and listener

Here's a little diddy from my CS Specials
:P
