Heya, it's me again =P

So, I've heard the Fat 50's, played the Texas Specials, but they're missing a certain... "je ne sais quoi" that I'm looking for, so I think it'd be better to ask you guys here ^^

The type of music I like to play ranges from Jazz (George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Russell Malone), to Blues (SRV, Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooker), and Funk (Leo Nocentelli, Jimmy Nolen, Curtis Mayfield). [oh man, oh man, oh man, funk 49]

I have different playing techniques to get different playing tones... Chicken Pickin'round where the neck-middle PUPs are, right on the fretboard-neck gap (or even on the fretboard) for more bassy-midrangey tones, and hard, funky picking to make the strings pop with flat picks, and again a more bassy, mellower tone with a jazz pick.

What I'm looking for is pickups that are reactive to touch, really, with well defined bass, spanky, play nicely with pedals (nothing heavy; tube screamers, wah, octavia), chimey/bell-like on the mids, and for the highs: creamy smooth, with enough attack not to make it sound too harsh or brittle.

Thanks,
Jones Araceli

P.S. Are my expectations too much for a set of pickups?

Have you tried playing with pickup height?

Pickups closer to the strings will give you more volume, more distortion, and less sustain
Pickups farther from the strings will give you less volume, less distortion, and more sustain.

Hm... I guess I should invest in some Texas Specials then! :P

I didn't get to play around with the pick up height though, cause it was on my buddie's guitars, and if I recall him saying correctly, he sets up his pickups to the max height they can go without touching the strings. He's more of a metal head, really.

So thanks guys! I really appreciate your help in this! :D
