Hello to everyone here. This is my first post, I'll keep the gr@mm@tic@l 3rror$ to a minimum.

Right up the street from my house someone was throwing out a Fender Deluxe Plus 112 amplifier. I brought it home and the thing crackled and popped. I tried using contact cleaner on the knobs, but this didn't help.
I guess that the problem is that the speaker is blown and I need a new one.
I took apart the amplifier and removed the speaker and I could see no tears in the cone and all the wires looked good. I plugged in a set of headphones and I was getting perfect sound, no crackling or popping.
I don't see any manufacture dates anywhere on the unit so I am unable to date it, however there is a "Celebrating 50 years" sticker on the back "1946-1996"). So let's say that this unit is 15 years old.

On the back of the circuit board the input power says 120V~60Hz. Underneath this "360W"
The speaker is a 12" Fender Special Design and it has an impedance of 4ohm.

I wanted to know if anyone has an idea how much this amplifier cost originally?
Is it worth spending $100-$200 on a new speaker?
What speaker would be recommended? (I like playing classic rock rhythm, and light distortion)

Well, Nice Amp. However, before investing in another speaker, check the amp by wiring another speaker to it and see if the speaker in fact has blown. If your amp is good, then get another speaker. There is a online manual for this amp, and they state the speaker is a 4ohm 12", which is kind of rare. Althogh the manual states 4ohms, check the back of the amp to see if there are any tags or stickers that indicate what kind of speaker impedance (Ohms) it uses. Being solid state you can run a 8ohm speaker, but with output at 90+watts, it's best to go with the recommended ohms. I would not recommend spending over $100 on a speaker unless you plan to keep the speaker for a long log time and maybe use it in another amp. Jensen and Weber has some ceramic magnet speakers of good tone for Fender amps. Also, Eminence has a large variety to choose from.

If in your test the amp works and the speaker is not blown, then you have a problem on your hands. It may then need to be looked at by a tech.
