Hello all,

I'm new to this forum so please be kind :).
I am looking for the pick up resistance specs on a 2000 Mexican standard Strat.

The reson being is my main guitar is the mexican Strat and it needs to be refretted. I got a deluxe players strat and, as I love the way it feels, the pickups are not hot enough(vintage noiseless), meaning they don't overdrive very well. I love the tone from my mexican strat. Is there any mod I can do to help the noiseless pickups load up better?

Any help would be awesome.
Thanks in advance,

Mike

Hey Mike,

Sorry no information, cause I'd like to know also! My VN's (I love the sound of them) are weaker than the originals so I just up the volume and gain to compensate.

Hey Charles, Thanks for the reply.
Even with the gain cranked on my Deluxe, I can't make the VN sing like the mexican strat. I'm thinking there might be a wiring problem. I ordered the deluxe players strat directly from Fender because no one had the color/fretboard option I was looking for. The guitar is GORGOUS but as of now it really isn't usefull for my needs. It has hardly any sustain and the notes drop off even with the amp gain at max. My mexican begins to "fuzz" at 7 and continues untill 10(volume knob). I'm a pro musician, and use a lot of digital, programed effects for different songs that took years to program and tweak. My wife bought this strat as a replacement for my main axe when it goes in the shop, but I can't go back and reprogram years worth of tweaking just to use this guitar.
Some one on this forum must know of something that I can try to fatten up the sound of this thing. I do all of my own work on my guitars(except refretting) so I'm open to sugestions. Higher K tone knobs, in-line resistors,ect... The guitar is only 1 month old, used on only 2 gigs (4 songs). If there is something wrong with it, I don't want to modify it(warranty) yet.

Has anbody else had this experience with the VN pups ?

O.K.
For those of you interested, the pick up resistance for the standard mexican strat is 6.8k for each pickup. This info came from Fender Tech Support.
Thanks, Charles

I share your frustration. Striking that balance is such a struggle that when you find it, you dread the next broken string.

I like the Barber Tone Press first in from the guitar. It really gets things bigger, and it doesn't pump like other comp/limiter pedals. I've heard similar things about the EH Blackfinger.

Yup. I measured the 5 single coil (2006) Mexican Standard Strat pickups I have last night. They ranged from 6.7K to 6.9K ohms (measured out of the circuit).

I wonder how they'd sound if I unwound some of the wraps to bring them down to about 6.0K (or even less)? Hmmmm.

My set of MIM Standard pups all measure 6.7k.
