Hi,

A while ago I bought and installed 2 Texas Special pickups for my strat.
Now the guitarrepairman tells me these are installed wrong, eg. top being bottom.
I wonder if this is even possible?
How do you know what is the top of the pickup, and the bottom?
Since the pole pieces are of different heights, this definetly matters.

I think he means that you installed the bridge in the neck position and the neck in the bridge position. They should be labled as to which goes where.

No, he actually said I installed the pickup in the wrong direction,
eg. with the pole piece intended for the 1st string at the 6th string etc.

If the leads on the bottom of the bobbin are positioned facing the bridge the pickups are installed correctly.

Here is the bottom of a strat pickguard with pickups installed.

If your pickups are NOT oriented as shown than you have a problem.

If your pickups ARE oriented as shown than you need a new guitar tech :)

If that is the case, the OP should not be working on his own guitar.

You can't even put the neck pickup in the wrong way, the neck pup cavity will not accept the shape of the base plate unless oriented the right way.

Post a photo of your pickguard assembly. That should end all the controversy.
