I found a set of custom 57/62s at my local guitar/music store today and got one of the employees to hold them for me. Now my questions-how long have these been out,are they still being made and if not for which years were they available, and mostly what kind of tone and sound could I expect out of these 57/62s? The color on all three is the creme-colored aged look. Just looking for an opinion but which color pickguard would look nice against the shade of these pups? My Strat 's body color is Baltic Blue and she has a rosewood fretboard.

The '57/'62 pickups have been around a LONG time. They are still used on the USA '57 and '62 "vintage" reissue models. Their specs may have changed a bit over the years --- and somewhere along the line the tops of the pole pieces got bevelling.

They aren't "custom" pickups, but they are great vintage sounding, low output pickups. I like them a lot, 'cept I don't like the bevelling, but YMMV.

A"mint" pickguard might look good on your guitar, IMO.

They are a mighty fine, what I call, "utility pickup". Meaning, they cover a lot of ground without specializing in any one area. You'll get plenty of outstanding Strat tones from them. Frankly, I think you can't go wrong with them unless you are looking for a really specific type of Strat sound.

The older 57/62 from the '80s and '90s was wrapped with enamel wire so the coil was purple colored, like the Texas Specials and CS 69. The new 57/62 uses fromvar wire so it has the bright copper colored coil.

Thanks for the replies! One of these days I'll get the time to install these babies. I just started work at the post office last week as a carrier (mailman) but everything is so strict and overwhelming that I'm still working my other fulltime job until I reach my 120 day probationary period and see that I'll make it as a mailman. It's a hellova lot harder that what most people percieve! Over the last three weeks I haven't had the time except for last Sunday to pick up my Strat and play her . She was crying for attention.

Well I FINALLY found the time to install my 57/62 pups on a new white pearl pickguard and them onto my Strat (I quit my night job just so's I could concentrate on the postal job). WOW!!! She's sounds better than I thought she would. A really sweet vintage sound out of my '68 Pro Reverb. Problem is too many ears in the house all the time so I can't crank my amp up to full volume-or close to it-to really appreciate the tone.
