Thanks in advance for your kind consideration. Here's the beef...

Picked up a used strat American Std (?) Pickup set, and, a mexican pickup too for $25 from a gracious guy in North Houston. The AmerStd (?) neck pickup is in a Squire 51 and it sounds nice.

The dilemma: I am trying to figure out the DC resistance of the other pickups and I am confused.

Mexican pickup - Blk/White wires - 7.0K - This checks out with research in this forum.

AmerStd (?) PU #A -

Molded 016730 bobbin - Yellow/Blk wires - 12.0K - Bridge? - Handwritten 72900 / 81C

AmerStd (?) PU #B -

Molded 016730 bobbin - Red/Blk wires - 11.9K - Middle? - Handwritten 72707 / 800

Sumpin ain't rite. Amer pickups resistance seems way off. Yet, mexican pickup measured with same meter seems pretty close to the 6.8K I found here. Pickups checked off guitar. All pickups have bright copper winding.

Pretty confusing to me. Your experience and expertise appreciated in helping me to sort this out. Thanks again.

Black/yellow leads on an OEM Fender pickup usually indicate RW/RP -- those are generally intended to be used in the middle position.

How do they sound?

Thanks for your reply. The neck pickup installed in the Squire 51 sounds nicely round and more full than I expected. It will drive if pushed, but the clean neck sound is what I like best.

Guess I will test them out in a squire strat HSS and see about the rest.

FWIW, the lead length is longer on the red/blk than on the yellow/blk.

WOW! I put the mexican pickup in the Squire 51 neck position. I love it!! There's no comparison between the mexican pickup and the Amer Std. On the clean side, for me, the mexican pickup blows the Amer Std. away. It has more output and clear bell-like tones (I've always wanted to say that, now finally!). On the overdriven side, the Amer Std pickup sounds way better to me. I am sure that I could trim the mexican pickup driven sound with the amp, but even steven, the amer std sounds better to me.

I play clean so the mexican staggered is my choice. Red and Blk wires. 7.0K

Edit: Oops, blk/wht wires, sorry!

I plan to put the Amer Std neck and middle in my Squire II strat and see what happens. Expect it to be an improvement over the stock korean pickups in my HSS squire II.
