I don't want to insulting Abby or anybody and did not said that at 80 years old you can't work. My dad have 88 and can do almost anything.

I just think Abby could be ( not sure ok?) a markettig from Fender, a name from nostalgia, more than a pickup builder in 2011.

Okay... Take our word on this then, since it seems that you haven't spent much time playing her pickups... Abby is the real deal. She's not a marketing gimmick. She's one of the finest, if not THE finest pickup builder in the world.

Find a set of her handwound pickups and spend some time playing them. That will at least give you a chance to see where we are coming from on this...

Yes, that is very true. I've lost count of the total number of sets I've owned, but it's likely approaching 125 or more sets. I stopped counting when I hit 100. And I have many sets of Abby handwound pickups, of various models.

I know I'm probably going to get burned for saying this but I feel like pickups are a lot like art. You can have some really happy accidents sometimes. What I mean is, sometimes cheap pickups have a really great sound due to their imperfections (as ironic as it sounds). As long as you have a quality amplifier to really bring out all the nuances.
For example Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys (and solo album for that matter) is notorious for using knockoff guitars and pickups but at the same time always uses high quality amplification, and he gets some of the greatest blues tones I've ever heard! Another example I have is a good buddy of mine who's been playing guitar for 50 plus years, but more importantly has been a vintage guitar collector for almost that whole time, brought home one of the new classic vibe squier telecasters after being completely dazzled by it's playability to price ratio. I had to laugh, but lone behold those pickups somehow produce a great clear tone.
I understand and recognize the quality of skillfully handwound pickups. I myself use and have used Abigail's Custom 69 pu's for the passed three years and I can easily say they're my favorite. But I also think people should not completely disregard lesser, inexpensive pickups either because again, their jankiness can behold hidden magic which can serve an irreplaceable nitch in certain genres and recording situations.

I desagree, building pickup is mechanical work, you can learn how to, but some people work better than some others.

About New Classic Vibe this is not accicent or luck, almost everything gone much better in low budget price. With robot and computer. CNC machine.......

I just watched the video linked above and have a question: What is the difference between hand wound and machine wound? From the video I take it that hand wound means a person is holding and directing the wire onto the pickup and with machine wound a machine is holding the wire?

I had mentioned something similar to this a while back. The operator threads the wire and then guides it around a spinning bobbin where the winding machine automatically shuts off after a certain preprogrammed number of turns thus giving the operator the opportunity to inspect and make adjustments if necessary in accordance with the preordained specs (and parameters) of the given pickup model. The operator then restarts the winder and the aforementioned repeats itself over and over. I guess, 'technically', you could say these are hand wound when in reality, they are hand 'assisted', machine wound. See, now here's the thing: The operator simply conforms to what has been already established for the task at hand. Meaning, the operator doesn't design or have any spec input, etc, per se. Oftentimes, the operator knows nothing about guitars, pickups, etc. Rather, it is simply their job and like anything else, the more experienced the operator, the least to no adjustments are needed for a successful wind which translates to having the most say, per day quantity of QC passed coils. FWIW, this is only one step in an assembly line procedure for making pickups.

Throughout the history of pickups, only some prototypes and by ratio, very few 'boutique' pickups are made totally by hand without the aid of any machines.

I'm a person who likes to try different pups but have never had a set of Abby's unless they were in an original Strat way back when and I didn't have a clue who wound them.
My question is,where can you find a set of hers to buy,I've looked but haven't found them yet.....give me some directions.

You pretty much have to hawk eBay for them. That's where I have gotten most of my sets. But I have also collected a few other sources over the years too. Here's a link to a set currently on eBay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280623830252&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

That is a loaded pickguard so it is a bit more expensive. Though I have seen all price ranges for these, with or without pickguard assemblies. I have a bunch of automatic eBay searches that will find most all of them as soon as they are listed.

You are welcome to email me and I will help you out as best I can.

Great because the ones she really did make, not the ones she merely supervised and initialed, . . . well, they are just magic! It's Abby magic, don't you know?

Okay, all kidding aside, I have some and they are super. The best thing I could add, though, is go to YouTube and find the several parts to Seymour Duncan's interviews about the ART of hand-winding pickups. Premier Guitar has them, too. It explains so many of the details and removes some of the myths.
