I am replacing the Tex Mex pickups on my (MIM) Standard Strat with the following:
- DiMarzio Super Distortion S (Bridge position)
- Fender Hot Rod SCN Samarium Cobalt (Middle & Neck position)

I've downloaded all of the wiring diagrams I can find and am hoping this will be straight forward. Is anyone aware of any particular issues/points I should know about? Any advice on this Christmas time project will be appreciated.

Thanks
Derek

BTW - if you are going to advise I have a few cold beer on standby, I'm way ahead of you!

Greetings Derek!

You MAY run into an out of phase problem between the DiMarzio and the middle SCN.

Wire the SCNs up for permanency. Wire the DiMarzio up in such a way that you can easily reverse the red and green wires as you MAY run into a phasing problem when you team the bridge and middle pickups together.

After wiring the three pickups, put the pickguard back on but don't screw it down yet. Put one string back on the guitar. Test for the following:

If the DiMarzio is in fact, out of phase with the middle SCN, you will get a hollow, nasal sound and a volume drop when both pickups are on together. This is where you'd reverse the red and green wires of the DiMarzio to correct this problem. If you do not get the hollow, nasal sound nor volume drop when the two pickups are on, then they are indeed, in phase where you can proceed directly to buttoning up the pickguard, etc.

Any problems, just yell.

Enjoy!
