I put together a maple neck 68-69 strat. I currently have the American Vintage pickups from a hot rod 62 installed. I'm really thinking about putting in the 69s to make it more period correct. I've seen comparison clips on youtube but can't really hear much difference between those two. Are they really that close in terms tone?

The CS '69 set uses non-bevelled, non-staggered magnet poles. Thus, I think they sound a skosh "smoother" with more balanced volume between the strings. I put a set in my 12-string Strat and they sound superb. I've also played them in a friend's oly white Custom Shop '69 through a vintage AC30TB -- they were wickedly righteous! I don't think you'll be disappointed with them.

Indeed they are -- "CRS" strikes again!

I must've been thinking about my buddy's mid-70s ash Strat (he replaced the original non-staggered pickups in it with a set of '69s after two of the pickups failed).

Thanks for the correction.
