I am very fussy about my strings! For over 30 years, having tried just about everything, my preference was Ernie Ball. When I started playing Fender guitars I tried Fender strings and found that I liked them even more!I NEVER LIKED D'ADDARIO STRINGS!!! Imagine my disappointment when I received my most recent box of 12 sets of stainless .009's and found IMPOSTER D'Addario strings in place of the REAL FENDER strings, made in Mexico! I still have a few sets of the genuine Fender strings and I have made side-by-side comparisons...the new D'Addario FAKE FENDER strings are VASTLY INFERIOR. They don't sound the same (the REAL Fender strings, hecho in Mexico, have much better tone), I don't like the way they feel. They deposit some kind of black filth( all over the white pickguards on my Telecasters and my hands ( never a problem with REAL Fender strings) AND they are nowhere nearly as durable! The outer wrap wire on a .024 actually wore out and frayed!!! THIS NEVER HAPPENED WITH REAL FENDER STRINGS!!! The life expectancy of the D'Addario imposter Fender strings appears to be less than 20% of the Mexican real Fender strings!!! On top of it all, I think the painted ball ends are just plain GOOFY loooking! I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO RETURN THESE FAKE FENDER STRINGS AND HAVE THEM REPLACED WITH GENUINE FENDER STRINGS(made in Mexico). If not, I will not buy "Fender" strings ever again!

Howdy and Welcome!

Well I've had the complete opposite experience to you! :D

The Fender Bullets on my CP60's Strat we're great until this happened....

The 'A' string died! :?

I've always used D'Addario 10's without issue. That said I know plenty of people who have moved away from D'Addario due to strings unwinding just like the fender one in the pic above.

Different strokes for different folks!

Andy

I never had any problem with d'addario, Maybe they are not the best but it's a matter of taste. I use Ernie Ball since 2 months and it seem to have better sound, but not realy sure

On the 3 occasions I've bought a Fender guitar from new, they came with a sticker advertising the strings fitted as Fender Bullets. Frankly, they always feel like rusty fuse wire to me and I can never get them off quick enough.

D'addarios and Ernie Balls are the most popular for good reason. Great performance to price ratio and superb consistency.

You should be aware that there are counterfeit D'Addario strings out there. A Google search will show the difference in packaging: the "XL" letters on the fakes overlap.

I've always hated Fender strings. Maybe the good ones you had were actually fake Fenders. The problems you describe of the "imposter" strings is exactly the issues I always had with Fender strings. There are many great strings out there, Ernie Ball being my preference, and hopefully you'll be able to find something that feels good to your hands.

I always used either Bullets or Ernie Balls. I've also tried D'darios and Elixers, but i have just found the best strings I've ever played. Anyone play Thomastik Infields? Sound better, feel better and last longer than any string I've tried. They are made in Vienna and not many places carry them. Believe me, they are worth ordering from their or another suppliers website that has them.

I know that they cost a tad more... DR Pure Blues!!! I have used these strings for over 5 years now and will never buy another brand of strings. They are a vintage style string as they are Nickel wound over a round steal core. Handmade in the good ole' USA! These last quite a bit longer for me than other sting manufacturers out there. I prefer the Pure Blues 11's to there Tit-Fit line(tend to be a little brighter of a string). I use there Bass strings too and I couldn't ask for better performance from a bass string! Although the bass strings tore my fingers up for a bit till they got used to them but it was a sacrifice for great TONE!

I prefer the DR Pure Blues too. I got a pack of Fender 150JL, pure nickel too, size 12 but I have yet to compare. I wasnt aware there was counterfeit strings out there, we've sunk to a new low I guess.

I used to use Fender 150XLs until Ernie Ball strings came on the market. I switched to them in the late '60s and never looked back.

IMO, I find that D'Addario strings are the closest to the Ernie Ball strings. From what I can deduce, the magnetic properties are extremely similar where the only significant difference is that the D'Addarios have a hex core for their wound strings and the Ernie Balls have a round core. In a pinch, I have mixed brands for a set without any negative repercussions. YMMV.

I just got some 5250XL bass strings and they aren't the same as the ones made in Mexico that I've used for the past 10 to 15 years. No silk wrapping on the ends which is VERY important to me.
I won't be buying Fender strings again either. I'm all for made in the U.S.A., but this really sucks. Dumb move, Fender

Intersting to read an older post, I have always liked d'addarios (especially the 9.5 gauge strings for my strats) but I have never liked the Fender strings!!!

Silly really, as i'm not that sure I (or many people?) could really tell any difference in a blind test!!!
