Hey I've been researching a lot of pedals and I've heard people say buffered pedals have a negative impact on your tone but true bypass does not. I have also heard that there are "good" buffered pedals pedals out there. I'd like to know what pedals have a "good" buffer, which ones are bad, and which ones have true bypass, and how do I identify if it has true bypass or not before I buy it. Specifically I'd like to know a little bit more about Electro-Harmonix's Big Muff Pi, and Small Clone Pedals, the Boss DS-1 pedal, the Vox Clyde McCoy Wah pedal, and the Fender Blender pedal.

I'm pretty sure most of those pedals you mentioned are not true bypass. As far as which is better, I think its all a matter of what you prefer. I have dozens of pedals, and I don't really have a preference for either. The thing that annoys me is that with some non true bypass pedals it sometimes seems like you can still hear the effect even when the pedal is off. Not all non-true bypass pedals are like this, but you do run into some bad ones occaisionally. As far as what has a bad affect on your tone. Tone is personal thing, what matters most is how it sounds to you. If it sounds good to you, and its the sound you are going for, don't worry about what some gear snob might think because you use this pedal or that pedal. In the end, your ears are going to, or should, help you make the final decision, not what someone else thinks about the technical aspects or the name of the pedal.
