Ok, I have been thinking about this for a while, but don't have the ability to invent anything.. Just ideas.

I have a hard time tuning a 12 string because I am constantly hitting the wrong of the two strings that are close together. My contraption would allow you to mute one set of 6 strings while tuning the other. Flip a switch and you tune the other set of 6 with a tuner of course.. remove the capo like device and you are in tune... Much easier than what I have to do now to tune a 12'er.

Some guitar company needs to invent some sort of contraption that makes it easy to tune a 12 string electric or acoustic guitar. The concept would be something that looked like a capo, but was a sting selector. You could chose the bottom set of strings to hear while muting the other 6 strings. When you pluck that area, you only get one string, which you tune with a tuner. You go through the first 6 strings... then flip a mechanical switch and it mutes the strings you just tuned and allows you to only hear the 6 that you still need to tune.

Does anyone follow what I am trying to explain? How bought some feed back the idea... If you played the 12 string, is this an accessory you would buy, or are you good at tuning a 12?

Thanks,

TJ

I follow and yes, I'd buy one. It takes me three times the effort to get my Stratocaster 12-string in tune as it does for a conventional electric.

Where do I sign up?

Arjay, it is just a concept right now.. It would need to be designed first and the usual way things are brought to market. I just was wondering if people thought it was a good idea and if people had the same issues tuning 12 strings as I do. lol It would have to be like a capo and not cost much, but hey I think it would be useful. I have heard that people get inspired to design things to solve an issue they themselves are having. I would like to flush this out and have a small or large company put this together and give me some credit for the idea... I need to copy write the idea as intellectual property... then have Google get interested in it and sell the idea for a small fortune... lol Retire in the desert.

LMFAO!

No. But my boys and I try our best to keep the jukebox at our local watering hole unemployed on weekends.

I am a rock star in my living room... I used to gig all the time... Put a quarter in the side of the stage and we will play your favorite songs... It got old after a handful of years. Music and guitar playing is my #1 hobby/moneypit. Music is my mistress...

I've always found it quite simple to tune 12 string guitars by alternate picking in accordance with the particular string I am tuning. For example, you want to tune the 1st string, upstroke it; you want to tune the 2nd string, downstroke, it, etc, etc. This is merely from my experience where YMMV.
