I recently bought a set of custom '65 Strat pickups from ebay taken from a Fender '65 Relic Strat. They sound great but I get a neck pickup reading of 6.23k, middle 6.07k and then the bridge pickup reads at a low 4.43k! Is this normal for this type pickup or has anyone ever seen a bridge pickup read that low and still be functional?

wow, that bridge pickup measures low.

Does it look like it has less winds than the other pickups?
It's possible that part of the coil is shorted out.

But it still sounds fine, eh?

Are you able to balance out the pickup volumes?

Yes it does seem low but I called Fender Customer Relations who were very helpful and told me as long as they sound good then it;s ok but that the average measurements are usually around 5.9k. Though these read 6.23 neck, 6.07 middle and 4.43k bridge but it sounds completely balanced and beautiful in all 3 positions at the standard vintage heights so go figure!

Thanks for the reply.

I'm glad that they work together as a set.

Thanks! I just hope as you mentioned that here ins't some kind of short somewhere in the pickup but wouldn't that make the whole pickup not work if there was a short? Also, in the pics, it does look like less wire on the bridge and middle pickups but I just checked out 2 sets of real 1965 pickups for sale on ebay and both sets looked similar in that the bridge and middle appeared to have less winds but they alk read in the 6k range for all 3! So I'm still wondering what could have cause this anomaly because it doesn't appear to have been repaired at all.
