I purchased a classic 70s strat about 10 years ago it is MIM with all the USA 70s hardware and stuff. But I can't find much info on the pickups. Fender called them "Vintage single coil" Alnico with staggerd poles, it has about 5.3ohms in the neck and middle and about 6 in the bridge.

Some have argued that it's the same as all the pickups in Fender's "Classic" series. Some say that the 70's pickup were different.

Here is my issue. I took out the pickups and put them in a alder body Fender strat about 3 years ago, and I realy like the sound of those pickups in that guitar and I want to get another set to put back in the classic 70's. or find a set that's similar. For me, they produce the clear articulate Fender sounds that are well ballanced through a tweed amp. I don' use distortion or effects and need clean clear tone just on the verge of breakup or a little overdrive. Mostly for blues.

Where can I find more info on those pickups?
What pickups are similar in sound, any suggestions?

Thanks.

The pickups in the '50s and '60s Classic series bear the same part numbers for both instruments. Those in the '70s Classic are different.

IMO the CS '69 pickups are very similar, sonically. As well, I think they're wound a skosh hotter than the OEM '70s Classic set.

Thanks, Arjay

I'll give the 69s a try.

Definitely do give the CS69s a try. I just put a set of those into my Strat last week and love them. They have all of the clean tones that you want.

+1

Which is the primary reason I installed a set in my MIJ Strat 12-string (yeah yeah, I know......blasphemy!).

Seriously though, the 12-string's Fuji-Gen pickups lacked the requisite amount of "jangle" and were quite muddy-sounding. The CS '69s cured most of what ailed the guitar and sonically, it now resembles a Ric with "toasters".

I've played these '69s in a friend's CS '69 "Closet Classic" as well -- they're punchy and articulate, especially with a SRRI or an AC30TB.

Thanks for the info the the CS 69. MF has a sale for $135.11 on brand new ones. I saw a lot of people on the youtube and liked what I saw. Also, the reviews are very favorable. I didn't realize these pickus were so popular.

I'll be ordering some shortly.

Again, everyone thanks for your help.

You do understand that we'll need to see pics when you've finished, right?
