Hello, I have a question about my "new"pick ups. I bought an original 1968 pearloid pickguard inlcuding a set of Abigail Ybarra 69 pickups, The pickups are dated 7-23-99 signed AY. Poles are levelled not staggered. The resistance of the neck pickup is 6.03, the middle 5.78 and the bridge 9.32 ohms. Is this normal? Can anybody give me some more info about these pickups? They come from a 68 reissue custom shop relic, pots and switch are included.

Thanks

5.4 - 5.8K are about what they are. That bridge is way too high in resistance for a '69.

Do they all have a grey fiber bobbin (flatware) ?

All black and white cloth covered wires, southern polarization.

+1

I put a set of CS '69s in my 12-string Strat. The bridge pickup showed a DCR of 5.83KΩ and it was the hottest of the trio.

Hello,

All three pickups say AY and then on the other side the date: 7-23-99, they all have gray fiber bottoms. They all come from a 68 reissue custom shop relic and the cts pots are from 1997. In the middle there is a custom shop sticker.

The poles are not staggered but are levelled.

I am trying to figure out how to post a picture.

do the coil wires look dark like a purple or a shinny copper color ?

should be purple, or darkish PE = plain enamel wire

to post a picture you would have to have a link to it from a site like "photobucket"

It has bright copper windings. I can send you a picture through email since I don't have a clue to post a pic.

Oh, that's O.K. I believe you :P

Well the Formvar wire (bright copper looking) was used on the "older" pickups. 50's Early 60's, the 57/62's have them, FWIW.

I believe they switched to P.E. in '64. It's strange that they (Fender) would not make them period correct, unless they have been re-wound ??

OTOH, I suppose it would suffice to say, they wouldn't have '69 pups in a '68.

No doubt they are from the Custom Shop but I guess they could be something made special for that guitar, and not actually a '69 (s).

Not that that's a bad thing.

If you click name you can get my email address.

Got your pic by email. AFAIK the 69's are the only ones with the grey fiber flatware, but I suppose like I mentioned they could be a Custom Shop special build (a variation) of those for this re-issue relic they came from.

Post the question on these sites:

Someone there may know exactly what the deal is.
