I know the answer to this is simple and probably obvious, but I don't know so I'll ask. Does it make any difference with pickups if they come from a lefty or righty guitar? I mean, will a pup from one work in the other? Thanks

Generally speaking yes they will. Technically speaking the pickups with staggered pole pieces are height set for specific strings (E, A, D, g, b, e). Using a right handed pickup in a left handed guitar will reverse the stagger and the pickups will not be as efficient.

Thanks Chet,
I want to replace a middle pickup from a lefty 93 American Standard Strat with something pretty close to original. I've seen a few 'righty' ones on ebay but no lefty. So as long as the polepieces aren't staggered, the righty will work. Thanks again.

One more question while I'm here. If the output of the pickups measures pretty close in ohms, can they be used in different positions, like a neck in the bridge position or middle in neck position, etc? I know the wire leads come into play but is there a reason why a bridge pickup is a bridge pickup, if that makes sense? Thanks
