Hi Everyone,

I have a 2000 Midnight Blue MIM Startocaster and I think it's time to upgrade its pickups.

Now, I've been researching a lot but I haven't been able to actually hear the actual pickups found.

What's better, Fender Custom Shop 1969 Strat Pickup Set, Seymour Duncan APS-2 Alnico II Pro Flat Pickups or any other single coil suggestion?

Thanks!

I installed SCNs in my MIM Standard Strat and love them.

I just installed a Dave Gilmour EMG DG20 pre-loaded pickguard in my lake placid blue 2009 MIM Stratocaster. They sound really sweet. Listen to Pink Floyd's A Momentary Lapse of Reason, The Division Bell & Pulse to hear what they sound like. It's not a classic strat sound, more like an 80's strat.

I had SCNs professionally installed into my 2009 Fender Standard (MIM) Strat about a month ago and love them!

I researched all of Fender's pickups (single-coil & noiseless) for about 4 months before making a decision and determined that SCNs may be the very best (IMO).

SCNs truely ARE what they're advertised to be. They can purr and be sweet and they can roar and get really nasty. AND they are truely noiseless...completely silent.

You don't lose the single-coil sound with these and they respond to how hard you pick them, chime and have bell-like tones. They're not bland. And you don't need to get higher pots. Use Fender 250s. And its probably best to get them installed professionally by someone with experience since they can get tricky to intall. In fact, ALL the electronics in mine were replaced with Fender parts since installing them right is difficult and labor intensive.

The end result will be that you will have your new #1 strat. I wouldn't sell my guitar for under $1300. Actually I would never sell it. Its as good (but I think better) than MOST MIA Strats.

I replaced my stock MIM pups with SCNs, replaced all three pots with CTS pots, replaced the stock switch with a CRL switch, installed a treble bleed on the volume pot, installed an Orange Drop tone cap, and rewired the entire guitar with 22 gauge teflon wire. Took maybe three hours and was a lot of fun. Now I am thinking about installing the Greasebucket tone circuit as I have read several posts that it works really well with the SCNs. I also do all my own setups now. Unless something breaks, my guitar will never see a tech again. Its too easy and too much fun to work on myself. :D

For single coils, all Seymour Duncans: SSL-2 for the neck, SSL-6 for the middle and SSL-3 for the bridge. You'll have balls, bells and everything in between!

For stacks, all DiMarzios: Area 67 in the neck, Area 58 in the middle and Area 61 in the bridge. You'll have balls, bells and everything in between but not to the extent of a true single coil set.
