Just bought a mint MIM Fat Strat off of CL (there's a thread about it in the Strat forum). This is my first electric guitar and I absolutely love it.

One small issue. I'm getting buzz/humming. Only when the humbucker is selected (so 1st and 2nd positions, less humming in the 2nd position). When I touch the strings, it goes away. It does get louder and softer from time to time, but it's always there when the humbucker's involved. Even increases and decreases as I change volume. Dunno if this is related, but I do sometimes get some feedback, albeit rarely.

This would all make sense if it was the single coils buzzing. Anyone got any ideas? Is this something I should contact a seller about or is it probably not a big deal?

You can leave the rare feedback out of the equation.

Off the top of my head, it sounds like you have a loose connection somewhere with the HB. This includes a possible malady at the selector switch. The fluctuation in the hum is what sight unseen, leads me to this conclusion.

There's no point in contacting the seller because what it would cost you to ship it back to him is probably what it would cost for the repair. This is provided that he doesn't disown the whole issue stating, it worked fine right up to the moment he boxed it up and shipped it. So, we're talking approximately $35 here. I don't know if you'd consider this a big deal or not.

Ok thanks, since it's probably not that big a deal I'm not gonna bug the seller too much and I might hold off on it for a bit. It doesn't really bother me too much. I'll take it to a pro and see what he thinks. Do you recommend guitar center for this kind of thing or would I be better off going to a smaller shop? $35 isn't a big deal.

You're welcome.

As diplomatically as I can put this: I would NEVER, EVER recommend a huge chain store for ANY kind of quality guitar work. By the same token, going to a smaller shop may be of no advantage either as one can't be sure of their expertise.

Your absolute best bet is to ask around regarding who is truly competent in your area.
