Hi guys im a bit torn between two guitars, out of the new american deluxe stat models there are things that are tempting about the two.

Firstly the new standard has n3 noiseless single coil pickups which have NO buzz and NO hum, which sounds fantastic, However the hss model with has a dh-1 humbucker in the bridge position which offers versitility but will these dh-1's give the hum and buzz therefore taking away that quiet back noise.

I play some simple rock, punk, ska and quite a selection realy and your advice on which would be better would be a great help.

Thankyou for your time

James

Personally, I'd buy the SSS: but that's me.

But if you're looking for a HSS already....

Why do you think they call it a humbucker?

Answer: ....because it doesn't hum.

The DH-1 has been renamed Atomic. It's the same Fender-spaced humbucking pickup except it has a new name.

I've never had used one but I've read negative comments about the Atomic: it sounds very crappy. I partially agree, you can't go wrong with a better-sounding humbucker rather than having a messy piece of crap with the DH-1.

Being the owner of a 2004 American Deluxe Strat HSS, my experience with the DH-1 humbucker has been negitive. After experiencing hum and noise on a level with a single coil, the authorized service center determined that the original DH-1 was not functioning correctly and replaced it. Second DH-1, same story, hum and buzz so bad that I could not use the guitar live.
Either it is the DH-1 humbucker, or a wiring flaw in the switching that is creating a ground loop. And it would appear that Fender has carried this flaw over to the current generation of the American Deluxe Strat HSS. So until the problem is addressed, stick with the SSS pickup format in the American Deluxe Strat.

Thankyou for this insight, i play in a band and do a fair few gigs and this information will help me loads knowning that if i did get the hss then live performances would be a nightmare. Thankyou for your time.

If you plan to replace the crappy Atomic/DH-1 with a better-sounding humbucking pickup, you can't go wrong with a Suhr Doug Aldrich or a Tyler Secret. Yet I saw Suhr pickups on Fenders, but I never seen Tyler pickups.

I always dreamed an American Deluxe HSS LT with Tyler pickups (two JTS3250s in the neck and the middle positions and a Secret humbucker in the bridge) and Demeter active mid-boost electronics. Unfortunately Fender doesn't use jelutong bodies and these wacky paint jobs (especially the shmear finishes) are far less common for a Fender guitar or bass.
