I still have the original tweed case that came with my ’62 Reissue Stratocaster when I bought it back in 1983 but it is falling apart and the latches don’t work very well, so I think it’s time for me to get a new one.

In the past few years, I have spent a lot of time and money modding my Strat with the correct 1962 appointments so I would like to get a matching vintage-correct case for it, which would be the Coffee/Brown Tolex case. Since the guitar is kind of beat up it would be great if I could get a case that was also beat up a little. I know that the "standard" cases are selling for around $150 new but I figure for $50-$75 I could get a nice worn one but with latches that still work.

Why not merely repair the latches?

I've seen replacement Cheney latch kits on Ebay for reasonable $$$, handles and other hardware as well. They're easy enough to install with common hand tools and some experience working with brass rivets.

Best of luck, HTH

Keep your eye out on Craigslist. I bought a Fender Brown Tolex case for $70 last year.

It didn't have a single scratch on it.

They're out there, you just have to be patient.

Thanks Arjay.

It was my partscaster project. It took me over a year to find the right pieces and to put it together.

It was a lot of fun, and it plays really nice.

I like the look of the brown Tolex and anyway, I really want the correct vintage case for my '62 Strat.

I can appreciate that. All of my Strats have period-correct repro G&G cases. Black, brown, and blonde Tolex plus two different tweeds (one is a "center pouch" for my '56 Mary Kay clone).

Since you guys sound like case wh*res like me... Here is my favorite case in my closet: (I don't have any pics of mine, but here's the MF link)

http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Deluxe-Hardshell-Electric-Guitar-Case-for-Strat-Tele?sku=547123

It's the coolest looking case. They discontinued it, but I've seen them come back a few times. If you find one buy it; they're really cool looking.

Nice, but the color's not "kosher".

I have a couple of those "amp logo" cases in traditional black Tolex. One with maroon poodle-plush interior (for a 3TSB hardtail) and the other with black (for a CIJ '65 re-issue Strat in LPB).

I'd love to score one of those CS Yuri Shishkov Tele cases with the Kelly Green interior.

The brown and white Tolex cases do look really cool but there is something about the texture and color of the Tolex that doesn't look right when compared to an original vintage case. Below you can compare a 1963 "white/black" Tolex case to the new reissue case right next to it.

Forty-five years of grit, grime and UV exposure tends to have that effect.

The center latch on the vintage case is styled differently from the repros as well -- I never noticed that before.

Great pic!

Just checking in again. For the past couple of months I've been looking on eBay and elsewhere online and every G&G/Fender vintage reissue deluxe brown tolex case that I find is either brand-spanking new or in minty fresh condition. I would love to find one that looks like this!

Indeed!

That looks like the case for a '63 slab-board Strat that I owned for a time back in the mid-70s. I traded a blackface Bassman head straight across for the guitar, case, and a Big Muff.
