Hi,

I would like to ask if pots used on guitar can affect the sound ?
I own MIM Fender Statocaster - do you think that it has different kind of pots than those used on Made in USA Fender Statocasters, and if yes - do you think that replacing pots will improve the sound ?

Thank you in advance

Tomek

I think the MIM pots are the same as the US ones.

The only thing about volume pots that affect the sound is their value (unless they are old and scratchy and need to be replaced).

That's because they do bleed off a little treble to ground.
A 500K pot would bleed off less highs to ground, so if you changed from 250K to 500K pots, your guitar would sound a bit brighter.

Thank you for reply, information is very helpful.
I am thinking of changing pots when I will replace pickups.

Best Regards,

Tomek

I keep hearing this but what I'm not sure about is if this is true for both volume controls and tone controls, or just one and not the other.

I'm rewiring a Squier Strat with a Dimarzio Evolution humbucker in the bridge and American Standard single coils in the middle and neck positions and I'm not sure which pots to use. Looking at the diagrams on the Fender site for guitars with the same humbucker-single-single configuration shows some with only 250K pots (volume and tone) and some with a 500K pot for the volume but 250K for the tone controls.

Don't expect a big difference, but you might get some subtle changes if you try a different pot.
