Hi, I recently bought a set of pickups (FENDER Noiseless Strat set- aged white) in Ebay (dealer). I notice it comes in a box with a manual, that specifies that I have to use 1M pots, 1 for volume and 2 for tone.

The problem is that even when the box arrived NOT opened, one pot is 500K.

I want to know if it could be a Fender problem? Maybe the manual is out of date....or maybe the seller changed one pot? or its ok to use a 500k pot?

Can you suggest me what usage is better? where should I use the 500k pot? as volume? or should I wait and get a 1M pot? what would be the effect of using such pot instead of the 1M one? less gain?

My luthier says it wont be a problem, and he wants to put the 500k as volume, but I think it is not the best solution.

Welcome.

Fender did switch around the resistance value of the pots with your pickup set.

Frankly, I've found your set sounds the best with 250K pots all around. See, contrary to popular belief, these aren't high powered pickups (don't let the DC resistance fool you). So, using 500K or even worse, 1,000K will stretch out the highs and lows of the pickups at the expense of the midrange. Your pickups will then sound quite sterile and anemic. At least with the 250Ks, they will have some body to them. Of note is the fact too that the sweep of the 250K pots will be more responsive vs. either of the other two values.

You're welcome.

A wise choice!
