Hey guys, when i bought my am stand strat, i noticed on the neck pickup, the B string magnet was very low and probably around 1 mm under the plastic p/up cover, but i also saw it had seom sticky waxy kinda crap on it, so i managed to get some of it off but between the gap there still remains a bit of that whitish clear substance. Was it meant to be there??? oh and is that magnet meant to be that low?

The wax is present as the pickup was dipped in it to solidify the coil, thus preventing the pickup it from feeding back.

As to the B string magnet being that low, your's is a vintage design pickup and is correct for what it is. See, back in the 1950s when all G strings were wound, the staggered heights of the six polepieces were deliberately done like yours to equally pick up (volume wise) the vibrating strings. The height for that B string as you describe was/is correct and appropriate for back then. Unfortunately, with this design and today's predominantly unwound G strings, it is not that the B string is being picked up too low (volume wise) but rather, the G string is now too loud.
