I just purchased a set of Tex specials. I'm trying to figure out which PUP goes where, according to the wiring diagram the bridge has a red dot on the back(which it does) and the neck has a blue dot.......it doesn't. The only difference I can see between the 2 is that 1 has a black and white wire and the other has a black and tan wires. The middle is supposed to be rev. wound Rev. polarity, so I would like to get them in the proper positions. Any help you guys can give would be appreciated.

black and tan is the middle pickup. if the bridge and neck pickups dont have any blue or red dots, you'll have to do some resistance readings. the bridge should be up around 7.5K and the neck around 6.2K i believe it is.

Black and TAN ??

Any Fender pickup that is the RW/RP should have a black and YELLOW, unless yours is old and discolored.

Do you have a compass, you could find the opposite polarized pickup of the two with that. The one(s) the North end of the needle points to is a South polarized magnet. I believe the RW/RP will be a North.

Middle 6.5K
Neck 6.2 K

With all the variables, it still could be a guess which is which as far as the resistance readings go.

Another thing is sometimes the wires get "cut to length" so that would be a way to get them layed out right too.

Set them real low to the pg to start out.

You have a great set of pickups there !!

You are correct, When I got a little better light the wire is yellow and not tan. You were also right about the resistance 6.5 and 6.2 according to the back of the PUP box. I'm in the middle of installing them now and can't wait to try these babies out. I have played accoustics for the last twenty years and am new to the electric side of things. My wife got tired of me banging out the same stuff all the time and bought me a sienna sunburst ash strat for christmas.......in my eyes it is a work of art.......I am now hooked hard and am turning into a tweaker and a gearhead. Thanks for the info, I've learned more from reading this board and selected others than I ever thought possible. There are deffinately some knowledgable people out there.

Mate if all else fails with trying to work out what pup goes where....

Lay them out and measure the length of the wires...

Longest length should be the Neck pup, shortest length should be the bridge pup...the middle as it is...

Welcome to the forum and Good luck Mate...

Thanks for all the help and advice. I got the PUPs in and they sound GREAT......a huge improvement over the originals. while I had everything apart, I decided to repace the saddles with some graftechs and do a proper setup on the trem and cleaned up the wiring as well......life is good.

good to hear mate, i just swapped out my trem block for a full steel one. As much as people debate about the benefits of doing so, im loving the difference. A clarity, tone and sustain boost. life is also good.
