What kind of cables do you recommend for a bass set up?

I don't think there is too much difference, or any difference at all really, between cables for bass or guitar. Any good quality (usually meaning not in the for sale bin right next to the register at a store) should do just fine. Where you need to be worried about the type of cables when dealing with speakers. Never use an instrument cable to hookup speaker cabinets.

Contrary to popular belief, cables can make a tremendous difference in the quality of your sound. There are varying levels of contruction/ architectural methods used for making audio cables. There are companys' out there that have based their entire philosophy on manufacturing and marketing audio cables based on technological breakthroughs in sound transmission.

We've introduced our Premium Cable Series (Gold and Platinum) which specifically addressed this issue. Our line consists of cables, both 12 and 20 feet for bass, electric guitar and acoustic guitar. Each one employs our patented DCA technology which is saying we've constructed cables for all types of musical styles. If you're playing acoustic, or rocking through a stack or thumpin' fat grooves on bass, we've engineered and built cables which best suit your style. They ABSOLUTELY make a difference in what comes out of the speakers.

What we feel we've done is amplify this product category by engineering cables that sound good to your ears - not just look good on lab equipment. Our Gold and Platinum Series cables represent a true-breakthrough in sound. You owe it to yourself to try them.

Do you want the conduit between your amp and your guitar to be just whatever you can get? That's like saying you'd put the cheapest tires available on your European super-sports car - doesn't make sense.

These cables will change your mind. I stand behind them 100% - my ears are still recovering from 2 straight years of listening tests...

Enjoy - Thanks all!

Billy

Either the gold or platinum will be great for you. The Platinum cables have a unique anti-tangling overbraid wrap on them. As well, they have die-cast metal ends with silver-soldered Switchcraft connectors. These are what I would call, the new studio standard bass cable which sound tremendous. There is some memory in the cable which makes coiling a snap but to some, these may not be as pliable for stage if you move around a lot.

With that in mind our gold series is what I like to call the new gigging standard cable. The gold bass cable has the same inner DCA cable architecture as the Platinum. The differences are in the ends which employ a superiorly-strong molded material and the highest quality available, one-piece connectors. The overwrap is a silver and black cloth braid - very pliable, soft and perfect for stage use!

Please check out the cables section of fender.com and check out both the Platinum and Gold series bass cables. There are some great photos on the site that will give you a good look at the line. Either way, you WILL be rocking with the absolute best conduit between your guitar and amp, period.

Best to you - KEEP ROCKIN'

Billy
