Evening Guys/girls. Got an 84-87 E8 serial contemporary 22 Fret $@! Strat with a Bartolini bridge pickup which I'm looking to replace with a Fender PUP. Just picked a PUP up on ebay advertised as an 80's Fender Pickup and I'm just looking to see if it is as it should be. It has a Black Bobbin which feels/looks more like coated/compressed fibre. Its definitley not plastic like the other 2 already fitted which have flat poles and square & round holes between each pole on the base. This one only has 1 small hole in the base between the 2 centre poles. The bottom of the poles are flush with the base the tops are staggered. I cant find any dates or stamps of any sort on it. It has black & white cloth covered wires. It looks fairly well made and has nice tidy solder 'blobs' where the windings join the wires. Any help would be greatly received. Cheers JV :D

Thanks for that. Doesnt have any coloured marks on the poles. The windings are bright copper colour. It looks lihe the poles could be hand bevelled as they are a bit rough and uneven but the bevelling is very slight. You have to look very close to see the bevel at all, they look almost flat like the US PUPS in my JV. Cheers, JV

Your welcome.

Are they staggered?

The colors on the underside of the pole is to keep the set straight ( id est, which is the bridge pickup).

I guess if anything it starts to narrow down the possibilities.

As these Custom Shop pickups ( made today) are to "reproduce" the vintage originals, it's possible that pickups is a old ORIGINAL Strat pickup.

The bevel isn't much, these are Fat 50's:

Thanks Mate, and yep the poles are staggered. Best just get it rigged up and see how it sounds, bit of a result if its an oldie...eh? Only really bought it to fit and sell the strat, as I'm looking for a '71, but the Bartolini was putting buyers off...!!! JV

It dont look as clean as the pics you posted as the poles look a little rougher and aren't polished up so well. You can still make out what looks like file marks/scratches across the tops of the poles and around the bevels.

Here's the strat:

Not to confuse the issue any further but that looks like a Seymour Duncan SSL-1 to me. YMMV.
