Are they different pu's? In what genres do they stand out?

Sorry if you found this question a newbie question because I am a newbie.... =p

I am looking forward to buy a Fender roadhouse strat sometime in July-September for our upcoming "mini guitar concert". And after searching for some details about that strat, I found out that it has Texas Specials. But the problem is that, I don't have any ideas on how that pu's sounds like. I am looking for a blues-kind to an alternative rock-kind music. Are they versatile enough to produce that kind of sound? Blues such as Eric Clapton, SRV, etc.. and AlternRock like Green Day, Paramore, etc...

Thanks and if you can suggest alternative guitar to buy, that would be much helpful. ^_^

Hi and Welcome.

Mate I have a Mexican Strat that I have Fender CS Tex Mex pickups installed in the Neck and Middle position and for the bridge I use a Seymour Duncan Hotrail. This combination I find is great for Classic Rock, Blues & Alternate Genres.

I have Fender CS Texas Special pickups installed in my Made In Japan Strat from the Neck all the way to the Bridge.

Texas Specials are great for SRV, Clapton, etc etc...more to the Genre of Blues. You can work some great tone's for other genre's as well if you have a good tube amp.

In my opinion and that is all it is, I personally think that the Fender CS Tex Mex pickups with a Hotrail in the Bridge are more versatile than the Texas Specials.

I play in a Rock Blues Cover Band and we cover Clapton, Hendrix, Georgia Satelites, SRV, ZZ Top, Gary Moore, and the list goes on...My Muso friends say the Tex Mex's cut through the band with the required tone...

I would suggest you go to a store and play a Strat or two that are fitted with these pickups under the bonnet.. You will know which one to go with when you hear it.

Good Luck and enjoy!!!!

Tex Mex and CS Texas Specials do sound somewhat simular.

I would say the CS Texas Specials edge out the Tex Mex overall though. I think you'll like them in that Road House.

Not that this has anything to do with your question but Tex Mex ARE NOT from the Custom Shop.

Hi sjtalon, Mate thank you I stand correct on that one. Lol...

I too like the Texas Specials but in my opinion when it comes to which set I would use for an allround purpose as enquired, it would be Tex Mex for me.

Lol, I think I had a blonde moment thinking they were CS.

Thanks again.

IMHO, the tex mex sound great. They are probably the best mexican made pickups around. I get such great tone from on my road worn.
