For those about to Rock,
I am replacing the pickups in my Am Stand Strat with Texas Specials. I followed the wiring instructions and have everything as it should be but my neck pickup is completely dead. In the out of phase position neck+ middle, the middle pickup comes on without a problem and the bridge and middle come on strong without any problems.

I have replaced pickups in other guitars a few times times, but am no expert. Usually if I have a problem, it is with a cold solder joint that I then resolder. I have resoldered the hot and ground on the neck pickup and they look great. I will check them this weekend with the multimeter, but I don't think the problem is in the soldering.

Is there any other mis-wiring that could cause this, only dead signal from the neck pickup? Could it be the neck pickup is dead, and if so, how can I check?

Welcome and, "We salute you!"

FYI: Contrary to popular belief, positions 2 and 4 of the pickup selector switch join the middle pickup with either the neck or the bridge pickup IN phase, NOT out of phase.

To ensure that the neck pickup works in the first place, unsolder it from the selector switch and hook it directly to the terminal of the volume pot where the pickup selector switch is wired to. Make sure the volume and tone pots are all on '10'. Prior to this, ensure that your selector switch is set for the neck position so that you won't have any other pickup(s) accidentally on. Now, premising that the pickup does work, check the inner mechanical terminals of the pickup selector switch to verify that they are firmly mating with the metal sliding rail of the switch as it clicks into the neck position. Check both sides of the switch on that rail. Also verify that there are no blobs of solder anywhere grounding out either these terminals or the one you had your hot wire going to and this includes the tone pot for the neck.

Thanks for the great tips! I looked at the switch, which was fine. I connected to the volume- no signal, I wired it for the middle position - no signal, put in another pickup and it worked without a hitch. Turns out the pickup was bad and I put the Am Stand pickup back in the neck position for the time being.

We'll have to see if I can find a neck position texas special on ebay, i think Fender only sells the full set. I actually bought the pickups in '97 and I'm sure I don't have the receipt anymore so I doubt I'll be able to get a replacement from Fender.

Thanks again and Rock on!

You're quite welcome and good luck with your search for a replacement.
