My dear guitar is sick and needs attention.

I have a Telecaster that sounds terrible and I don’t know what to do. I really need some help to get this patient up and running again.

The thing is I have a Fender Telecaster 52” reissue equipped with Parson/Whites G and B bender and three pickups and it doesn’t sound like I want it too.

The sound is like “cardboard” or something, it lacks that crystal clear country twang sound I want.

When I bought it it had the pickups; “Lindy Fralin blues special”, “Adder”, and “Seymour Duncans Hot rhythm” but In pure desperation I changed the main pickup from “Lindy Fralins” to the original one for that specific guitar.

Is it the benders that makes the guitar sound so boring or is it a pure question of choosing the right pickups?

I play traditional country and want a clear nice tone for chickenpickin’ and stuff like that.

Help please.

Welcome.

To my ear, any Tele I've ever heard with that Parson/White system in it sounded quite similar to how you've described your's. The crux of the matter is, the body of that Tele is missing a good deal of wood and the hardware is not your usual Tele equipment so both shall radically affect how the guitar will sound. To further compound this, you prefer low output, clean and clear pickups which will only draw attention to the above deviations. Realistically, you have three choices at this point:

1. Change the body, hardware and pickups to a 'traditional' Tele combination.
2. Keep the body, hardware and pickups you have and use preamped Tele pickups such as EMGs which by their preamp, shall create a predetermined sound regardless of which guitar they are installed in.
3. Keep the body, hardware and pickups you have and use a premium, graphic EQ. With this option though, I don't think the results would be all that dramatic in your favor as the EQ doesn't have all that much to draw from.

Thanks a lot for your input Martian it is much apriciated.

The idea of using pickups that have more of a sound of their own sounds interesting to me.

I don't want't to change the body or the benders because I use them so much.
So what should be looking for are pickups with a sound witch is not colored byt the body mass of the Tele.

Also I suppose I want bridge and middle pickups Stratocaster style so the "egg" pos sounds will be as "chime" like as possible.

I read something about that Strats are using pickups that are switched in polarity to each other to get the max out of the "chime" sounds is that correct?

So it seemes with your help I've narrowed down the problem to get in touch with someone who can sell me those kind of pickups I need? Seymour Duncan? EMG as you mention is a brand I have to check up.

Thanks

Your welcome.

Yes regarding your perception of which pickups to use.

Strats using pickups that are switched in polarity to each other to get the max out of the "chime" sounds is preposterous. Don't believe it!

Duncan does not make preamped Tele pickups so EMG is essentially your only practical source.

For your convenience, here's a link to EMG's Tele page at their website:

Glad to help and good luck!
