I have a strat w/ a hot rails in the bridge and 2 VNs in the neck and middle. The rail is great for distorted sounds, but pales in comparison to my VNs in the clean tone department.

As such, I've been considering switching the rail out for a noiseless pickup. I was wondering what anyone thought would be the better choice, between the VN and the Hot Noiseless.

I'm looking for a nice chimey yet articulate clean sound, but that can also handle a range of distorted tones as well. I've read in a few places that the Hots hold up better to distortion than the VN bridges can, but can be too bright. Checking youtube has been inconclusive, so I just wanted to see what you all thought.

Go with the Hot Noiseless.

I have a Deluxe Player's Strat that comes with the Vintage Noiseless pu's. I like them a lot. However, I found that the bridge pickup lacked the volume and fullness I wanted. I wanted a Tele bridge sounding pickup if I could get that. But I chose the Jeff Beck Hot Noiseless and am pretty happy with that pickup. It is a little louder and punchier ( less thin sounding ). Now, I can actually use the bridge pickup all by itself. It's bright, to be sure. One way around that is to wire the middle pickup tone control to the bridge pickup. That way, you can roll off some highs on the bridge. I also like that all the pickups are noiseless, which can matter. Just did a gig where the first act had a guy without noiseless pickups ( they were single coil Fenders ) and he had terrible hum and buzz from the sound company's lights. But my guitar was as quiet as a church mouse, even when I engaged my Keeley Overdrive.
