Hello All,
Ive poked around here before a little, but not sure where to direct this discussion. Its been a while.
I have an AmDeluxe strat DZ5######.... I am currently deployed in Afghanistan, have a little project, want to customize my strat a bit.
Well, I'm a huge Clapton fan and especially love his tone over the past few years. Ive decided on the Clapton Mid boost mod with Vintage Noiseless pups. There are a few things I'm pondering on and need some help, you see, being here in Afghanistan I need to order all necessary little parts, will be frustrating to hit a stopping point ad have to order something and wait weeks. I'm not to worried about ordering extra switches and things to experiment...
So far Ive ordered the mid boost kit p/n 057577 and my three Vintage Noisless pups.
My concerns....
I understand I'll be switching to an active set up and a little concerned about battery placement. Would really hate to have to remove the pickguard at every batt change. But, if thats the only way, no prob...any ideas?
I heard the original Clapton series had a toggle to switch from active to passive, is this an option? Where do you think I could find the part number and best place to buy from?
I am definately open to adding my own toggle to turn active on and off, but would definately need help with schematics, anyone know a great source of schematics for getting creative with strat wiring? Would it work if I added a simple toggle between the mid boost circuit and the 9v, have one path coming from the toggle to the battery and one from the toggle to the output socket to be able to go back and forth? I understand it will be a bit of a frankenstein with an extra toggle on the pickguard, I'm ok with it.

I assume I will have to change from the AmDeluxe 5-way seeing the new set up will not have the s-1?
Any help with this discussion will be truly appreciated
Thank you very much,
Joe

Hello Joe!

I hope the following is of some use to you.

Passive to Active Switch

The Clapton mid boost, once installed is active all the time. There is no way (that I'm aware) to have both passive and active set up without using two separate jacks.

Battery Placement

If you don't want to remove the pickguard, the battery can be stored in the trem cavity. Just wedge it in between the springs. It shouldn't have too much of an effect on your trem action once you set up the guitar.

S-1 Switching and the Clapton Mid-boost

If you wanted to, you could keep the S-1 and have the mid boost. Check out the following thread for more info

Installation Tips

The following link should help:

Let us know if there is anything else. Hope this helps.

I did this conversion recently and as far as battery placement goes I used a forstener bit in a pillar drill and cleaned the opening up with a chisel to make a cavity next to the springs as per the clapton guitar.
I did have the mid boost pcb positioned under the pots but it was all a bit cramped so I made a cavity under the pickguard, again as per the clapton guitar. Much neater and very satifactory.

Well, I haven't been back to the forum to say that my mod went great. For now I just placed the battery next to the 5way as per the link instructed. I am in Afghanistan and my means are limited as far as routing the wood anywhere on my body.
But..the guitar sounds amazing and I appreciate the help!!!

Thanks

Enjoy and stay safe out there
