In the past I've used the stock ceramic pups in a MIM Standard Strat and Texas Specials in a 2000 American Series Texas Special Strat. Then I got a 2003 American Series Strat and tried the stock alnico pups, Lace Holy Grails, Fender SCNs, Fender 57/62s, and then Dimarzio Area 61/58/58 pups.

A few days ago I had my guitar tech install a used set of CS54s. We then tried them out through a Mesa Lonestar (clean and dirty) and a Victoria Double Deluxe. WOW! My Strat now sounds exactly as I feel a Strat should sound. I've been through a few sets of noiseless pups because I hate single coil hum when using distortion, but IMO none of them sounded like a "real" single coil. I was considering inexpensive custom hand wound pick-ups (there are a lot of builders with decent prices), but I found these for a great price so I had to try them.

I think that they'll be staying in my Strat, although due to my past history my tech doubts it!

Glad you like them. I like the fat, sweet vintage tone of them too.

I've watched many Youtube clips of the CS54s, and was impressed by 99% of them. I really like the way that the bridge pickup handles OD and Distortion from either a pedal or from an amp's dirty channel. My little Blues Junior is nothing special, but using the CS54s and turning up the amp a bit (louder than I normally play at home) really sounds good to me.

I had this experience when I purchased a set of Tonerider Surfari alnico 3 single coil pups.

They are the closest I've heard yet to get that clear bell strat tone with or without Overdrive..

I was going to buy the CS54's but decided to go with the Surfari's that gave me the tone from that Era for below half price of the CS54's.

I think the CS54's are the only CS pups that are not in my Fender pup arsenal. I think I will have them one day though lol...

Congratulations Mate for finding another wonderful Fender tone that strikes a chord...enjoy!!

I bought the 54s because I found a used set at a decent price. If I had to pay full price, I would've looked at some of the smaller custom builders instead.
