Hi, I've got a Strat w/ the Vintage Noiseless set in them (aftermarket), but they're not noiseless :(

Neither the tech that installed them nor another tech I had do work on the axe had any clue what was wrong w/ them. My only guesses were that A.) the tech's not as professional as he seemed and might've just installed them incorrectly, OR B.) there's some sort of "crossmojonation" (ty, Austin Powers) going on between the pickups and the layer of copper shielding glued under the pickguard.

I don't know enough about wiring, but this second theory seemed plausible enough. It's not just the electricity in my apt either b/c it's super buzzy (on all five positions) other places too. One last detail: the buzz pretty much goes away when I put my finger on the screws holding the selector switch :shock:

What can I do to kill the noise w/ these allegedly noiseless pickups???

The copper shielding underneath your pickguard is not part of the equation here.

If two 'techs' are clueless, I question their claim to be proper techs.

Sight unseen, I suspect a component is not properly grounded inside the guitar or a component such as the output jack is wired backwards.

Yeah, like I said, I don't know enough to be sure about anything so it doesn't surprise me that my theory's off... but then again, I'm not charging people under the guise that I DO know enough only for them to find out later I'm full of it :P

The second tech actually said, "I don't know, it sounds good to me. There's nothing wrong w/ it. The wiring's actually very neat..."

SO WHAT??? THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S WIRED CORRECTLY!!!

I can't believe I keep wasting my money on these people. I don't suppose YOU live in the West Michigan area?? lol

It did kinda' *sound* like a ground issue, if that makes sense. Again, I just wish I knew more about wiring - and was good soldering so I could just do this stuff myself :?

Neat wiring doesn't necessarily equate to correct wiring.

Keep in mind that NO "Noiseless" pickup is literally, 'noiseless'. "Noiseless" is just a Fender name for their stacked humbucker series and like any other humbucker, hum is reduced, not obliterated. Again, because you've stated that the buzzing is severe, I must presume you know the above and apparently, something in that circuit has either been omitted, reverse wired or your tapping into some bad house wirings.

Unfortunately, I'm on the East Coast. If you want to post some pictures, MAYBE that will give us some insight. Yet, even looking at pictures, it may not tell us anything. Obviously, a hands-on inspection is the best way to get to the bottom of this. I sympathize with your exasperation though.

Damm it. Surely not another Shite tech. Can't believe he charged you just for looking at the wiring!?! How much did you pay? It looks as if there are more hacks than pros opperating these days.

Keep hunting. Im sure there is someone out there who knows what their doing

Andy

@Andybighair

Fortunately, w/ that second tech, I was not charged for the wiring inspection, but he didn't do the thing I WAS paying him for very well either lol

@Martian

Next time I restring, I'll take the pickguard off, have a look around, and maybe take some pics to post here. Couldn't hurt :roll:

Thanks for the comments so far, guys. Any advice is appreciated at this point. The term "wits' end" comes to mind :P

If you are touching screws and it goes away it is a grounding issue. Could be it is wired correct but there is a cold solder.
