I was wondering if getting a wah pedal is a good idea.

I'm learning guitar, and I'm going through a regiment every day if I can...20-30 a day either playing chords or finger picking. I'm following a book for the fingering and just finding songs I like with simple chords to just practice with. Maybe it isn't the best way, but it seems to work for me. I get bored doing the same thing over and over again, so I like to mix it up a little every now and then.

I was thinking of getting a Dunlop wah pedal (that's on sale right now). Just a plain one with no effects. I like my things simple because, as my dad would say with his cars, the more you have on them, the easier they'll break. :P

I just like to experiment with different things every once in awhile to break up the monotony of practice...do something new a different for kicks.

So, would a wah pedal be a good idea? I've seen them demonstrated on youtube (and I have a basic effects pedal...a coffin case one I got for butt cheap).

Thanks for any input. I'm asking because bday is coming up, and I just want to make one selfish purchase. The crybaby wah pedal is on sale and it seemed like a good thing to have (I just love that waaaaaah sound).

The way I've always seen it, guitar playing regardless of one's skills should first and foremost be about having fun. If you think you'll have fun with the wah as part of your playing then by all means, I cannot see why you shouldn't go for it!

Happy Upcoming Birthday and many more!!

Yup, I still have my Original crybaby which I bought for the same reasons, to mix stuff up. If you can find a used one or one on sale for less than $60 I'd suggest it, I wouldn't pay much more than that though. It's a good pedal that provides good fun ^^

I use an old 1960's Vox Wah, but more as a tone shaper than an actual Wah pedal.
An afficianado of that practice is Michael Shenker, ex UFO, Scorpions.
Its a great tool if you are willing to experiment with it and be unorthodox.

I have the Dunlop crybaby. Picked it up on craigs list for 40.00. Works great for me and does everything I need in a wah. If your just wanting to experiment and have some fun then I think it would be perfect for you

I say go for it, if you think it will be fun. i have my crybaby, i have had it for over 20 years. i bought it for fun. i don't really use it an awful lot, but I do pull it out on occasion and it's still fun. I don't regret buying it at all.

Okay, I think I'll suck it up and get one (I'll get the cash somehow because this is something I really want). I'm getting the adapter with it too. I'm just going to get a cheap cable to run it. I can always trade up on the cable later on.

The crybaby is on sale online, and it's around 69.99. Since I really can't get out at all to look around or try it out, I'm just going to get it. I know some of you got it cheaper, but there's free shipping and no sales tax which is an incentive for me. I'm trying to price match it and see what they say as well. *fingers crossed*

Dont forget to try your local craigs list. Sometimes I post a "want to buy" add and someone always responds. I bought my loop station and my wah pedal this way. I love saving money on used gear
What kind of songs are you going to play with your crybaby when you get it? I got mine for playing raggae tunes

Not sure what I want to play on it yet. I heard a demo online of several types of ways to use the crybaby. I'd like to try just rock and roll with the pedal, then maybe go into some 70s. Don't know yet until I want to try it out.

PS--I got a price match, but I have to order on the phone which sucks because there's an Internet free shipping deal they won't do over the phone. Ugh. So, I'm trying out the price match with guitar center.

Okay, got a price match. Have to pay shipping and sales tax which sucks, but I trust Guitar Center more than musiciansfriend. I had problems with them in the past. They said they would price match then go back on their word.

So waiting for a wah pedal with the adapter (hate using batteries). Have an extra cord anyway so I didn't have to add that.

FYI: Guitar Center and Musician's Friend are one and the same.

Yes I did get mine much cheaper, but 30 years ago, it was a gift from a bass player friend.
Do not get me going on out of reach prices of vintage equipment for the common (man/woman) musician.

Actually I'm going to start a new thread on that very same topic.

Yeah, I knew that, but it's weird how one was willing to work with me while the other one wasn't. Who knows.

Got it today. :D Can't wait to try it out. Have to wait for my cable to come in to plug it into the amp.
