I want more power out of it. I definitely want to install an active EMG-81. perfect for metal runs. But also I don't know if i should install single-coil EMG's on it too. And i have no idea about EMG's single-coil's at all.

Suggestions!?

Random thoughts in no particular order:

If you install the 81, no matter what single coils you use, the 81 will still be seriously louder.

The volume of EMG singles are surely louder than traditional Strat pickups. They are even louder than most high output single coils but here again, the 81 will still blow them away volume wise.

Mixing passive pickups with active ones can be done but the guitar's circuit must have the active's pot values (25K ohms) in order for the active pickup(s) and/or component(s) to work properly. Meaning, your passive pickups will sound weak, fizzy and choked where the volume and tone pots won't work properly with them. Consider: The active's pots are at least 1/10 the resistance of your OEM stuff.

EMG singles come in a few variations but they all center around the glassy, sweet aspects of Strat pickups; do not expect them to sound gritty like Texas Specials or something along those lines. For this, an EMG SPC control would be an excellent choice. It is an active pot where you dial in midrange so that the single coils will mimic the tonality of a full sized humbucker. It can also be used for the 81 as well which really makes the 81 sound like it is on steroids. No, it doesn't increase the output, it merely give the pickup(s) more attitude.

Instead of the usual 9V power source configuration, an 18V power source configuration can be used. It is perfectly safe for EMGs and it will give all the pickups more headroom (expanded frequency response); not output mind you, headroom.

Hey thanks. I'm aware of the power of the 81. That's why i want. But when it came to EMG single's, i've never even played an EMG single coil. So i have no experience in that field.

IF it were up to me and the strat had dual humbuckers. I would replace the neck humbubcker with a 60 or and 85. I love the way they sound.

But hey thanks for all the info. I'm not good with electronics and what not. But thanks for the help man.

You're welcome and good luck with whatever pickup combo you eventually choose!
