I know some of you strat ultra fans have lace pups in your sticks but I'm curious to know if any of you have tried the alumitone buckers. I've come across some positive feedback in my research so far but am concerned that the lace pups may be too hot still for what I'm trying to achieve.

I'm wanting to remove the EMG active pups from my EC-1000 and switch to something passive that cleans up better. I am currently considering a set of Gibson Classic '57's (to get close to that brassy kind of allman bros. tone) But really just want something more mellow/warm than what I get from the EMG set up. Any feedback would be appreciated

Lace AlumiTones are far from being considered Hot pickups. They have a very low DC resistance and a very wide frequency response. I put a set of them into one of my Strats and was really happy with the result. Here's a pic and then a link to a recording I made with it...

The EMG's in your EC 1000 are beasts compared to the Alumitones. The EMG's of course are active and those pups are the same ones that Zakk Wylde uses so you can gather the sound that he is looking for. But those will clean up if you work the vol knob. In comparison though, the Alumitones I've found to be smoother and probably more Rock and Roll than Heavy Metal. But you know that you can coax any sound out of any pickup with the right combination of amp and agressive play.

That said, for a Strat, I really liked the Alumitones. I installed them in a project that I recently sold and was super impressed with their sound. If your looking for some variety in tone, try a S/S/H set up with a blender pot, so you can still get that Strat tone from the singles and the rock and roll meat from the humbucker. With the blender you can push a little LP sound because you can get all three pups on at once.
