Since Hendrix's are you experienced came out in 67. The propers pickups to achieve a good hey joe tone would be 57/62s or fat 50s instead of the 69s, correct?

57/62s sound good for many different sounds, IMO. I believe that the Nile Rodgers CS "Hitmaker" Strat will have these as well, but can't say for sure.
They are on his current main Strat.

You could get a Hey Joe tone with a AS Strat and tube Fender Champ or Princeton,believe it or not.....heck I would bet even with a MIM Strat.
That's pretty much what Jimi did.
Back in those days we understood where the tone came from when we heard it,we all could get it or knew someone who could.
It was the studio effects and his phrasing and unusual melodies that were new.
He had been playing in Nashville in clubs on Jefferson St. before the Experience,and although I didn't hear him then,you would have heard "that tone"...with whatever he was using.
