hey just out of curiosity, and I know this has probably been answered before, but i am looking for advice on doing a really good setup on my strat.
I have read the article on the Fender site about that but I am always curious of homegrown or other ideas or suggestions on this subject.

a couple of years back i met and visited a guy through my local guitar shop
who had close to SIXTY Fender guitars! everything from late 50's-early 60's to a few basses to some of the coolest home-built or customized Fenders i have ever seen.
and normally I am pretty picky when it comes to the quality of re-finishes
or even in this case guitars that he had scratch-built complete necks for!

you couldn't tell the difference between his and factory finished or built
guitars!
and every one of his guitars that i played was like playing BUTTER!

so again sorry if someone has answered this subject already, but if so if anyone could kindly just point me to that comment,etc... that would be great!

Thanks!

Welcome.

The kind of information you are asking cannot ever be found in a book, on an instruction sheet or simply stated in a nice, neat, cut and dry formula. Regardless of if every instrument was the exact same model, every instrument is different and has to be approached as such. Consequently, the kind of success this guy you mention enjoys is a culmination of many years skill and experience.
