I own a new Classic Series 50's Strat and the tremolo was stripped right out of the box. The arm is OK but the threads in the tremolo are gone. I don't want to send the guitar back to the seller because I love it so I called Fender and got a part number for a new trem. It's Vintage P part #0054619000 and I found it at Darren Riley's for $34.95. My question is does anyone have an opinion about this trem or a suggestion for a sturdier one that would drop in a Classic Series Strat? Thanks!

Welcome.

Apparently the one you got with the guitar was thoroughly abused as in spite of the condition it is in, it really is (or was) a decent unit. Go with the OEM one you have your eye on now, it is your best bet.

Surely your Fender dealer should be replacing the trem for you at no cost? Did you get it over the net or something? You shouldn't have to send it back, if you have your paperwork you should be able to take it to your nearest Fender dealer and have them drop a new trem in for you.

If the rest of the tremolo is ok and it's just the hole in the block that is stripped why not just buy a new block? A trem block for a Fender vintage 6 hole tremolo should be less than $20.00
