I'm considering a pickup change in my American Standard Strat. Do I need to change the pots and wiring too?

I'm looking for more clarity and less mids. I guess the pickups will be flat poles.

I realize there are many variables here. I love my amp and everything else about my tone except I'm wondering if I can get less mids and more clarity out of Fender vintage pickups or Seymour Duncans.

Anyhow, if I need to change the wiring along with the pickups to achieve what I'm looking for I might just stick with using the EQ pedal for now.

Have you played with the height of your current pickups?

Yes. I lowered them all. The bridge was too piercing for me so I lowered it a bit. I liked the sound so much I lowered the other two as well to match volume. It just seems I have a bit to much mids now.

OK. Now it sounds like Amp/FX settings need to be adjusted.

I recently lowered all my pickups too and my amp settings were all out of whack. I had to make some adjustments to make it right.
