How refreshing, someone is actually humble enough to admit they don't know what they are doing!!!

Well, my friend, I shall walk you through it. All I ask is that you or the person doing the wiring knows how to solder.

Here we go:

Unsolder the hot (white) wire from your original pickup from the pickup selector switch. Make a note FIRST of which terminal it is that you are removing it from. Next, Unsolder the pickup's black wire from the back of the volume pot.

You shall be wiring the DiMarzio in Standard Humbucking format which, I'm sure is why you wanted the pickup in the first place.

With the DiMarzio:

Locate the black and white wires. Solder their ends together and neatly put a piece of electrical tape over your soldered connection. If you don't have any electrical tape, cut the part of a band-aid off that is meant to stick to your skin. Use both sides if necessary and of course, discard the gauze part. This taping is to ensure that these now soldered wires don't come into contact with anything electrically conductive.

Solder the red wire to the pickup selector switch where you removed the hot wire from your original pickup.

Solder the green and bare wire to the back of the volume pot.

That's it.

Two notes:

1. If you get a hollow, nasal sound and a volume drop when you have the DiMarzio on with your middle pickup, that means that the DiMarzio is out of phase with the middle pickup. The remedy is simply to reverse the wiring of the DiMarzio's red and green wires. In other words, the green will go to the pickup selector switch and the red will go to the back of the volume pot.

2. Before you put all the screws back in the pickguard and string the whole guitar up, test your work first. Place the pickguard back on the body where it belongs and put one string on. It doesn't even have to be tuned to pitch. What you are doing here is: A) Verifying that the DiMarzio is working and B) That the DiMarzio isn't out of phase when teamed with the middle pickup.

Good luck and if you have any problems (which you shouldn't), just yell!

Martian has helped me out on numerous occasions.
Great guy.
He helped me with a silmilar issue 2 Seven String Dimarzio Humbuckers.
I "thought I knew what was going on and his suggestions helped me rethink the setup. (I burned out a pot.. ..)
He is an asset and a resource here in the forums. I say they finally give him his Signature Tele!!!!!!

Wow . . . great timing! I was just given a "not-working DiMarzio Fast Track 2 pup, which I was told I could have if I got it to work". Well I got it working! :D Just a dry joint AND a miff coil-wire!

Thanks for the instructions Martian . . . What about DiMarzio's recommendations for the use of a 500k volume pot?
There are also recommendations for adding a cap and a resistor to the vol pot ? Anyone else have experience with adding a FT2 to two singles???

You're welcome!

Typically, any full sized humbucker should use a 500K volume pot so that it doesn't sound strangled. Now if you're combining the HB with single coil pickups, my trick with .047uf caps should be used so that the singles still electronically 'see' a 250K volume pot. If not, the singles will sound quite anemic.

In your context, adding a cap and a resistor to the volume pot is what's called, a treble bleed circuit. Its purpose: Many players perceive that when they lower their volume pot, some treble gets reduced along with the volume. The truth of the matter is, as the volume drops, one will by necessity hear less treble along with less volume although in reality, the treble is still surely there. So, what this circuit does is it bleeds more treble into the circuit as the volume pot is reduced. It has its drawbacks in terms of effectiveness though. Specifically, it it delivers too much or too little and to where it give the volume pot taper 'bald spots'. A lot of players experiment with the capacitor and the resistor's values until they zero in on what they perceive to be the best match for not only the perfect amount of treble being ramped up in the circuit but to minimize the erratic sweep in the volume pot.
