When I upgraded my guitar to the 3 pickup set of Fender Noiseless Stratocaster Pickups I have a wiring issue. The 5 position switch gives me 2 positions with sound. When I have the Neck & Middle P.U.s and the Bridge and Middle P.U.s are the only ones that are working. When I switch to Neck, Middle, or Bridge PU alone I have no sound. So apparently the 5 position switch is not wired correctly. The guitar is a Squire Strat by Fender.
The 5 position switch has a single row of terminals.

The wiring diagram with the pickups is not very clear at the wiring for the 5 position switch.
It has the following wiring terminations:
Pos 1 - Yellow from Bridge PU
Pos 2 - White to 1st tap of 500K Volume Pot
Pos 3 - White from Middle PU
Pos 4 - bridged to position 6
Pos 5 - white from neck PU
Pos 6 - bridged to Pos 4, + connected to middle tap of top Tone Pot
Pos 7 - not clear from diagram, currently not connected...
Pos 8 - connected to bottom Tone Pot 1st tap

The wiring diagram has the 5 position switch represented in a staggered with 4 on each side of the circuit board/switch body. Mine are all in a single row coming off a circuit card.

Any ideas for what might be wrong here?

Thanks!

Josh

Welcome, Josh!

First and foremost, if I were you, I'd replace your current pickup selector switch with the ones found in outright Fenders. The switch you have, if you look at it the wrong way, it craps out; it is only a matter of time, believe me. This may or may not be your problem already.

Upon securing the better switch, your wiring job will go a lot more smoothly including where your wiring verifications can and will be more exacting. Best of all, the switch under ordinary conditions will last indefinitely.

I recently bought a set of Fender locking tuners to upgrade my Stratocaster. After I put them on and restrung I noticed that the posts on the G, B & high E strings are considerably higher than the other - any ideas to overcome this is appreciated....

Actually, you've installed them backwards. The high E, the B and the G should be the lower trio.
