Hello Fender Folk ... I was wondering if you can purchase just the Lace Sensor plastic cover without the pickup. Why? I have lace in my strat and i was thinking about switching out the neck and bridge to different colored lace. I am a little anal about cosmetics and I dont want the new pups to be super white and my factory to be really faded. I've searched on-line and don't see them for sale, but thought someone on this forum may know.

While I have you ... I was thinking of putting a hot gold in the bridge, gold in middle and blue in the neck. Anyone else have this combo that can comment? Most of the music I play is classic rock, alternative rock and rarely some old priest or maiden.

Thx for the help!

Lace covers aren't sold separately.

Unless you solo and/or play fat rhythms exclusively off your neck pickup, I wouldn't go with that combo. The Golds are supposed to sound like Pre-CBS Strat pickups and the Blues are supposed to sound like PAFs. If anything, I'd put the Blue in the bridge. Notwithstanding, a Pre-CBS Strat tonality and a PAF tonality are two totally different genres; and then there's the differences in output. Ultimately, you will probably wind up setting your amp to favor one at the expense of the other. YMMV.

Thx Martian ... I figured that set up was rather unorthodox since you never see it. I have Lace golds in my guitar and it sounds a little too thin for my taste, especially the bridge. I thought about putting a red in the bridge, but I wasn't sure if that would be more output than I would like.

You're welcome.

Red just belches midrange and yes, it's really loud. When I used Lace Sensors, I had Golds in the middle and neck and a Silver in the bridge. These gave me very nice Strat tones almost across the board. There was always something missing in the high end. Ultimately, this is why I stopped using them.

One more question for you Martian ... I was wondering what the spacing should be between my pickups and strings. I've read that the Fender installation advice is inaccurate and I figured someone from another planet might have the correct answer. I noticed that my pups are all at slightly different depths and I'm wondering if a tune up will change the character of my tone. Thx for all your help!

A, "tune-up " or setup will certainly make a difference in your tone. How dramatic the results will be are directly related to how badly the setup was required in the first place or how radically different you require it vs. OEM.

A GENERAL 'rule of thumb' I use for setting the pickup heights is this: Holding your finger down on the highest fret of the high E string, adjust each pickup to about a nickel's thickness away from that string. Now, on the low E, hold down the 12th fret and adjust the pickups two nickels' thickness away from that string.

Glad to help!
