I have 2 relatively new Telecasters, one with a very bright sound...the other slightly warmer. The other day, I player an older Tele (40-50 years old, I believe) and, to my surprise, the sound was remarkably warm, rich and strong. Until now, I always thought the traditional Tele sound was "clean and bright" and quite specialized. Suddenly I heard a Tele with warmth and power and clarity...without the "tin". Is this how the Telecaster "originally" sounded? And, if so...is it just a difference in the pick-ups and electronics? And, can that sound still be gotten?

Thank-you

besides pic-ups/electronics, excellent point. I think the fretboard, maple, rosewood, type strings, type wood, ash, etc.,. and type finish help contribute to the tone.
