Hi guys just a couple of questions. I still don't really get what all this business with changing the inside of the pots means and whether i can just put the inside of the original pot inside the S1 switch to make it 50k. I just don't get it, the business of scraping the carbon off, does that mean I'll gently be turning the guitar up and then it will come on really loud when you hit ten, i just don't understand.

Pardon my not knowing much about these things

Regards

Andy Charles

Hi Andy,

The quote below should help. As to why you need a 50k S-1 pot, read Martian's post at the beginning of this thread (its the 4th post down on page 1)

Andybighair wrote:
1x 50k for the Master Volume - You'll need to dismantle the pot and remove the carbon trace and swap that with the S-1 pot. Below is a few pic's and a break down of what to do.

Gently pry open the 4 small tabs that hold the top plate on the pot. the Pic below shows two of those already done...

Then remove the carbon trace....

...and swap them over. Fold the tabs back down and you have your self a 50k S-1 switch Master volume pot suitable for use with the Mid-boost kit.

Job done!

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

Andy

Howdy & Welcome!

Bad news I'm afraid.

You'll need to route an additional cavity somewhere to house the Mid-boost PCB. Some thing like the Clapton Strat cavity...

Do you know anyone who could carry out the work for you? Family friend or a local carpenter should be able to help.

Alternatively, you could leave out the S-1 and Super switch and follow the instructions depicted in the link below:

http://areyouexperienced.net/fender_cla ... st_kit.htm

Hope this helps & best of luck!

Andy

Thanks for your help Andy. Definitely not looking to get the switches installed, just the board... Will the board fit by itself without routing?

Howdy!

If you look closely at the pic below you'll see the corner of the PCB needs to be chopped off...

... For more details and full instructions (including pic's) on how to install the Mid-boost without routing your Strat check out the link in my previous post.

Enjoy!

I will give it a shot on the weekend.

Just a quick question for anyone who still reads this thread, over the coming months i will be trying to learn how to build a strat from scratching using start parts bought from the internet.

Does anyone know where i can get a fender decal that will ship to Australia?

You're new here so I'll field this question. Your question not only touches a raw nerve with The Fender Musical Instrument Corporation but with a lot of players who own real Fenders. NO ONE here is going to help you get a bootleg or even a real Fender decal for that matter to put on a "Partscaster".

Great thread, I'm considering a new ("used") Strat and I'm torn between an American Deluxe and a Clapton / USA Buddy Guy.

I dig the S1 but I *really* love the mid-boost and can't decide on either - or both!

Tons of great info here. Nice work guys!

Hello!

I'm building a custom Strat and would like to install the fender mid-boost kit and the s-1 swtiching system together.

Can anyone confirm whether this is possible?

The only compatibility issue ican see is the Volume pot for the mid-boost is a 50k and the S-1 switch is a 250k. How will this effect the sound?

Thanks in advance

Andy

Hi there, I finished my project some time ago but now wanted to install the 'Gilmour switch' I've seen in the picture of the finished setup that you have it in there, what have you connected the two wires to?

Regards

Hi Andy,

I'll post a diagram that includes the Bridge on toggle switch at some point this weekend. :D
