I currently have Fender CS 69's on my Strat. I am condsidering switching them out for Dimarzio Area 58's in the neck/middle, and an Area 61 in trhe bridge, but I can't demo them to hear the difference. I really like the tone on my 69's but could do without the hum and wouldn't mind a little bit more heat from them. I just don't want to buy them switch and be disappointed with my tone. Not really looking for any recomendations on Fralins or Kinmans, just someone who has played these 2 sets and can share thoughts on them.
Thanks
Jeff

Welcome, Jeff!

The Area 67 is essentially, the CS 69's counterpart. The next step up would indeed be, the Area 58 as it has more midrange and a touch more power. The Area 61 is the next step up from the Area 58 in terms of output. It still preserves the warmth of the 58 but with a bit more drive and overall penetration. I see you did your homework!

Thanks, I guess one of my tone concerns with switching would be the clarity. I play from my neck pickup alot and love the clarity in the 69's. I have played many other guitars that sound kinda muffled in the neck. Will the area 58's give me a similar sound?

In one of my Strats, I have this combo from neck to bridge: 67/58/61. Originally I had a 58/58/61 combo but found the 58 to be, to use your words, "slightly muffled in the neck". And so, that's how the 67 wound up there. In the middle, the 58 is fine as it rounds out the position which can be clanky sounding with certain pickups. I highly recommend my 67/58/61 combo without hesitation for you.
