I like the Boss OS-2, because you can get overdrive and distortion. It kills two birds with one stone, and it is especially nice if your amp does not do great overdrive on its own.

I tried one of these pedals yesterday and really liked it. I still want to try out the "Bad Monkey" and Modtone Speedbox. The OS-2 is a lttle more than I wanted to spend but it just might be worth it.

If you are patient, you can eventually get some good deals on Boss pedals through eBay....especially now that the holidays are over...there's a chance someone got one that didn't want one, or someone has to sell some things to pay the bills...

I know the feeling, I'm trying to sell a Boss Loop Station myself. GC wanted to give me $20 for a $189 pedal. What a rip.

Yes, its retail price is slightly over your $50 limit, but you could probably buy it used from ebay or elsewhere for under $50

It is worth it, even if you cant find it under $50
And besides, if you buy it new, it only costs like $75-ish

After driving to a couple Guitar Centers without any luck, I finally broke down and bought a used DS-1 for $30 (free shipping) from E-Bay. Guitar Center's inventory was very low on the Distortion/Overdrive dept. due to X-mas.

For $30 I figured I couldn't go wrong. Plus, the DS-1 seems to be a top seller (probably due to the price).

If its good enough for George Lynch and Dave Navarro, its good enough for me. Thanks for everybodys help. Happy New Year!!! -Mike

Fulltone OCD is a nice sounding overdrive/distortion pedal also. Keeps intact all of the guitar's natural tone picking nuances.

I've recently started really liking the MI Audio Crunch Box.
