I'm going to be wiring a Tele and I ordered a Fender '62 Custom Tele neck pickup and was wondering if it matters whether I follow the wiring schematic for the 60's Telecaster or the 60's Custom Telecaster or the '52 Reissue, etc.

It would. Luckily, in your particular situation, all you have to do is simply unsolder the wires of the current neck pickup, remove the pickup from the guitar, install the new pickup and then solder the wires of the new one exactly where the wires from the old one were. Make a written note of where they are first if you're afraid of any confusion.

Thanks Martian but what if I were wiring it from scratch? It's for a Warmoth tele. :D

If you're building it for yourself, then do what you want, as thats part of the fun of building from scratch... 8)

So I can follow either of the different schematics? I wasn't sure it the type of pickup determined which wiring arrangement was required.

Since I'm asking, while the wiring for the 60's and the 60's Custom is similar, some of the lead placement varies and the 60's Custom has an additional 0.1 uf cap, what is the difference?

What are you using for the bridge pickup? The reason why I ask is because if you are wiring it from scratch, there are subtle differences in the wiring and the components values and I could best advise you if I knew the exact pickup.

I shall presume you want it wired toggle switch wise like a stock Tele.

I believe the bridge pickup is stock from a 60's Telecaster Classic Series.

Go with this one:

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wi ... tic=66tele

If either of your pickup wires are white, they are in fact, the same as what Duncan has listed as yellow.

Good luck!

Thanks Martian, that's the same wiring scheme as the 60's Telecaster... and pretty much most of the tele line-up.

Oh, one last thing Martian, what voltage cap should I be looking for? The 0.1 uf cap in the 60's Custom Tele is 200 VDC. Should the 0.05 uf cap be the same?

It really doesn't matter as no high voltage passes through a guitar's circuit.
