Howdy,

I'm new to the forum. Just signed up today. Be gentle :D

I get tons of hum/buzz from my Strat's single coil pickups when I play at church; lots of flourescent lighting. Someone let me use her Tele with the noiseless pickups. No hum/buzz and the tone is great. So I got one for the neck position of my Strat (Strat version, of course).

I've been perusing the topics in this forum looking for information regarding wiring the Fender Vintage Noiseless pickup. There is lots of info here and on the web for those installing a complete set (3) of these pickups. Resistors, capacitors, pots all mentioned in these posts, which made me think I better check before just plopping in a new pickup.

I have a 1997 American Standard Strat. I am installing *only the one* pickup, neck position. Is there anything special wiring or additional components needed to install this lone pickup? The pots are the originals.

Thanks all,
Rusty

Rusty,

Welcome!

Nothing special is needed except for maybe longer mounting screws. Other than the possibility of these, that's it. Solder it in just like any other pickup. FYI: The green wire is also a ground wire. It grounds the frame of the pickup.

Something went wrong. Output is barely audible. I tested before completely stringing up the guitar, but apparently I was not thorough.

White wire is soldered to the 5-way switch where the old pickup was wired; black to the volume pot casing, where the old pickup was wired. There is no green wire.

Not too worried about it right now. I'll mess with it next string change, or whenever I get impatient :)

I'll report back later...

I heard that the vintage noiceless don't sound that good unless you swap the 250k pots out for at least 750k but don't have any personal experience with them. Don't think it would effect volume that much though - just tone.

I hate to sound like Scrooge here but as I've said several times, all of Fender's Noiseless series pickups construction are VERY frail to say the least. Oftentimes, all you have to do is look at them the wrong way for them to crap out on you, if you know what I mean.

Informational: The pot value will have no bearing on the output provided it is on '10'.
